Seam Guide Units
Seam guide units are located between the last driven fin pass stand and the weld squeeze box and used to help register the weld seam for proper welding. They are generally useful in small diameter tube welding applications. Also, they can be beneficial when making tubes with a high outside diameter-to-wall thickness (D/t) ratio (e.g., >50:1).
There are two schools of thought at play here 1) seam guides are a useful tool, and 2) seam guides are a bandage used to cover-up a problem upstream on the mill. In either case, let us review the application and make suggestions.
